About the Program

This summer program offers students the chance to experience Barcelona, Spain, while taking courses that bring learning to life both inside and outside the classroom. Designed for a wide range of majors, the program combines academic study with cultural immersion to create a truly global educational experience.

In Barcelona, you will:

  • Explore the city’s rich history, literature, and art through interactive coursework.
  • Learn from Spain’s leadership in areas such as renewable energy, sustainability, and innovation.
  • Engage directly with Spanish culture by visiting museums, historic sites, and theaters, and by participating in hands-on workshops like cooking and improvisation.
  • Travel beyond the classroom, discovering the landscapes, traditions, and everyday life of Catalunya.

Barcelona itself will be your classroom, where you will experience a unique blend of past and present. From Gaudí’s architectural masterpieces to world-class museums, lively markets, and cultural traditions, you will gain a deeper understanding of the intersections between history, art, sustainability, and modern life.

Program Requirements

The program cost is $TBD, plus University fees of $240, totaling $TBD. A late fee of $100 will be added to your program cost after December 16. Program cost includes tuition for 6 credit hours, lodging, insurance, museums, entrance fees, field trips, and public transportation passes. 

Airfare is not included in the program cost and must be purchased by the student. Other personal expenses include passport and visa costs, eating out, shopping, and entertainment.

Engineering Courses with Jonathan Raush

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – This goal ensures access to sustainable energy. The course explores Spain’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainability.

Gain a global perspective on energy and sustainability by immersing yourself in the heart of Barcelona, Spain, a city at the forefront of Europe’s efforts in renewable energy and environmental policy. This course offers a unique opportunity to explore how countries and regions are addressing one of the most pressing issues of our generation—energy production and its impact on sustainability.

Set against the backdrop of Spain's and the EU's initiatives, you'll delve into key topics such as the Paris Climate Accord and COP 26, learning about the policies shaping the future of energy. You’ll explore Spain's leadership in green product production and sustainable practices. The course will teach you to analyze macro energy systems using engineering principles within the framework of policy structures, with real-world examples drawn from Spanish and broader European contexts.
